Themed day: When caring takes its toll
On compassion fatigue, emotional exhaustion, and professional shame
Working with people requires professional competence, empathy, and commitment – qualities that often make the work meaningful. Yet in a busy everyday life marked by complex tasks and high emotional demands, these same qualities can lead to compassion fatigue and emotional exhaustion.
These reactions are normal, human responses – not signs of weakness. They arise when care is given over long periods without sufficient support, professional reflection, or clear boundaries. The themed day provides tools to understand, manage, and prevent these strains, helping you to maintain both wellbeing and professional pride.
